Program In Partnership

CURRENT PROGRAM

In Partnership with SSI (Settlement Services International) and Ability Links NSW
CALD Youth Peer Support Group
This project is aimed at building the capacity of individuals in a group setting by delivering activities to increase community participation. If you are or know someone with mild-moderate disabilities aged 18 to 24, who are not eligible for the NDIS, join us or let them know! Project activities will include light exercising and arts/crafts sessions. It’s free!

PAST PROGRAMS

In Partnership with SSI (Settlement Services International) and Ability Links NSW
Young Adults Connected- Support Group
The objective of the project was to address the problem of isolation experienced by young adults with disabilities by providing a safe space, in which they interacted with others through activities they did to connect and face isolation. This, in turn, increased their social support networks, facilitated the learning of new skills, and expanded their knowledge in areas of interest to them. In addition to these results, it also achieved that the activities carried out through group meetings, allowed to increase their confidence and social skills.

PROGRAM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH QUEST FOR LIFE

Self Care Matters is 1 or 2-day workshop for communities, organisations, carers or anyone feeling the effects of stress due to natural disasters, overwhelming grief, depression, loss or trauma. Participants learn ways to build resilience and emotional intelligence and learn practical tools, strategies, and skills to live well in challenging circumstances. Explore how to create inner peace, manage feelings better and easily incorporate relaxation into everyday life. Participants are highly motivated to implement strategies for self-care.

PROGRAM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH STTARTS

CASA has worked with STARTTS on a number of projects including the Spanish Speaking Community Choir and the Spanish Speaking Community Market. Manos Latina project is a STARTTS initiative, in partnership with CASA. The purpose of this project is to promote Latin American culture and strengthen the financial capacity of Spanish-speaking community groups in Sydney. The participants in “Manos Latinas” showed and sold high-quality crafts made by their own hands or in groups, promoting the culture and beauty of Latin American crafts.

PARTICIPANT TESTIMONY

“My dad and I participated in a Latin American community event. There were not many sales but the atmosphere made up for it. Between the Latin music, singing, dancing [yes dancing] and the smell from the ‘choripan’ it was a fun day. You can see on our display the miniature shops my mum and dad makes”.
Spanish Speaking Choir was created, thanks to the support of Opera Australia, to provide an opportunity to sing to people over 55 years old from a Spanish Speaking’s background. Thanks to Opera Australia and host organisations, STARTTS and Fairfield Multicultural Health and the support of Community Action Services Australia (CASA) Inc, seniors from the Spanish Speaking Community can socialise with music as it happens in all Spanish Speaking countries. This project helped people to meet new friends and maintain their culture by experiencing Opera for the first time.
